The MSRP of our test model was only $28,400. With a few options and premium package added on, the bottom sticker price came to $31,300. EPA ratings for mileage show 21 in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

The latest MX-5 Miata PRHT is a well designed roadster from top to bottom that experts on luxury interiors would agree that it is really amazingly designed. Its PRHT stands for "power retractable hard top". It now has a new plastic composite roof that slightly contributes to the added weight of the curb. The latest MX-5 Miata PRHT is very cozy to ride on and to drive, especially for tall people to whom the cabin is intended for.

Performance wise, the Miata is always fun to drive and it is almost like being on a skateboard or roller skates. It changes directions almost instantly with a slight touch of the steering wheel. It consistently gives the driver the thrill of holding the road on sharp turns or movements. It can instantly transport your mind onto the curves high above the Mediterranean while you imagine you are competing in the famed Monte Carlo.

One of Mazda's top selling cars, the MX-5 has been reinventing itself since then. Before, it borrowed from the big RX-8 the very visible fenders as well as the very aggressive headlights. And for this year, it borrowed its previous cloth roof for a sleek, retractable hardtop.

While this engine provided ample power in last year's MAZDA3, the MAZDA5's extra weight saps some of its energy. Critics find it reasonably peppy with either transmission, but it feels somewhat underpowered for high-speed merging or passing. The 2.3-liter engine has a sporty growl when accelerating, which some reviewers find tiresome. It is generally smooth and refined, although it throbs a little at idle speed, despite its twin balance shafts.

This latest model from Mazda also offers many standard safety features like advanced dual front air bag powered with Supplemental Restraint System with crash zone and passenger weight sensors. In addition, 3- point safety belts in all seating positions and adjustable headrests in all three rows are also provided. The 2008 Mazda5, though cost- efficient, prioritizes the security of the whole family. It has LATCH System with child safety seat lower anchors and upper tethers, plus child safety rear door locks.

Mazda refreshed the Miata for their 2009 model, so the 2010 edition had very little changes. The soft top Miata is available in three trim levels - Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring. Our test model was the Grand Touring model. It sported a beautiful Copper Red Mica exterior color, with a Beige interior. The Grand Touring model also has the option of an automatic retractable hardtop. Fortunately, the test model included this feature. It operates so easily and so efficiently. Retractable hardtops are not new, but for a small sports car, they are very convenient, allowing almost instant enjoyment of the open top.

By most accounts, the MX-5 Miata is ranked at the top or near the top of every pick of affordable sports cars. Consumer Reports puts it as a "Top Recommendation." Car and Driver rates it among their "10 Best". The key word here is "affordable." If you are a sports car enthusiast on a tight budget, this MX-5 Miata might be your dream car.

So, what if you were able to buy a sports car that neatly avoided all three of these social faux pas in one handy and rather impressive, sporty little number? The answer is the Mazda MX-5; one of the most popular roadster sports cars in the world (including the USA's Miata namesake).

A few months ago, a terrific Mazda MX-5 Miata was delivered for our weekly test drive. Maybe I am partial to the Miata sports cars, but I truly enjoy them every time I am able to have a lengthy test drive. Judy is definitely not a sports car aficionada, but accepted the week with a gracious attitude.

The purchase of sports cars is a precarious business; there are so many factors to take into consideration before you hand over that (soon to be) maxed out credit card. For a start, cars of this nature have some of the harshest depreciation rates of all cars. You are likely to find that your prized, new vehicle loses almost half of its value as soon as its pristine-tuned engine elegantly pulls you away from the forecourt. Secondly, there are the age-specific dilemmas to take into consideration. We are all aware of the "mid-life crisis" tag that is (often) justly hung over the heads of the graying gentlemen who buy them. Amongst other sneers is the occasional jibe that a middle-aged man in a sports car looks like a Worm on a Diamond. Thirdly, there are the obvious cost implications. A high performance car that looks the part is going to set you back in a major way; in many cases you may just be paying over the odds for the badge on the front.
